There are more than 900 species of birds in Thailand, compared to about 300 over a single year period in the CNduN province of Alberta, where we came from and which is somewhat larger than Thailand.

Bird life changes quite a bit over short geographical distances. A 100 kilometre trip puts you in rather different birding territory. Also, species vary quite a bit by altitude, so a trip to the top of Doi Inthanon, which is not far from here, puts you in a birder's paradise.

Come and visit. One of my colleagues is very interested in this subject (It's both his job and his dedication)and he tells me that Thailand is one of the best places to visit.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32583055.post-50704111381911272782006-09-25T15:27:00.000-06:002006-09-25T15:27:00.000-06:00We drive, but you can find any imaginable mode of ...We drive, but you can find any imaginable mode of transport here, with motorcycles being the first choice of locals.

Cycling is quite good out of the cities, although within town I'd be worried about the traffic. If you come here to cycle, bring a mountainbike. I retired my skinny wheel road bike because of countless flats.

You can rent bikes here, of course, but they are medium quality. If you are a serious cyclist with a high end machine, consider bringing it.Peter McKenzie-Brownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06328673407558511310noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-32583055.post-78860165741006642092006-09-24T09:43:00.000-06:002006-09-24T09:43:00.000-06:00Peter,

If you have a car, what kind? Any thoughts about what urban biking or bike touring would be like there?
Bob the Biker from CalgaryAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
